Outdoor Retailer is an exhausting week filled with meetings, seminars, new product showcases and gear demos. In between playing with new, cool gadgets and networking with friends new and old, we were able to focus on the task at hand - what is going to be the best sellers for Canoe Kentucky in 2015? Here are a few items we felt were some of the best offerings for us:
1. Thermoformed Jackson Kayaks.
Jackson has been a leader in the kayak fishing industry for many years, but the boats have been quite daunting for smaller paddlers, older paddlers and women, as they have all weighed, at best, 70 pounds or more. Thermoformed plastic is great because it is still durable, but normally 25 to 30 pounds lighter.
2. Astral Fishing PFD's.
The Astral Ronny Fisher was a PFD that debuted in 2014, but was late arriving on the scene. It should make a big splash this year. This thing is for the true kayak angler who wants a comfortable and functional safety device. It comes ready with tons of pockets and storage space, a built in storm hood, and great colors to boot.
3. BIC SUP's.
BIC has done a marvelous job at creating a board that is user friendly, a great perfomer and lightweight. This year they have done a color remodel on all of their boards, and we must say, the vibrant new digs look awesome. They have also expanded there line of Yoga specific boards, and with our winter plans to hit the local pools on SUP boards, these should be a great new toy for us.
4. Bending Branches SUP Paddles.
We are getting to a place in the SUP world where folks are wanting better looking, better performing and better all around gear, and do not mind paying for quality stuff. We feel these beautiful paddles that Branches is putting out will meet all of the requirements for a great paddle. They are made by hand with in-laid layers of butternut and red alder, with a hand-polished finish really makes them pop, on and off the water.
5. GoPro Hero 3+ with Gorilla Clamp
GoPro is such an industry leader and rolling out new products all the time. We have gotten behind the eight ball on the new Hero +, but no more. We have been shooting with this camera for a few months now and what a breeze they are to use and edit from. Add the clamp mount to secure this to any board or boat and take home the memories you are making on the water.
6. YakAttack Gear Tracks
Luther at YakAttack has got to be one of the most clever fishermen out there. All YakAttack stuff is top notch and perfect for their function. The new gear track will allow all mounts to be added to the track from anywhere on the track...no more sliding everything off one end, or fighting to get one piece of outfitting past the other.
7. NuCanoe's New Boat
Still not named and only seen in carbon prototype format, NuCanoe has hit the nail on the head with its new boat. One thing that has always escaped them is good paddling. Well no more. At 13.5 feet and four inches narrower, this is a paddler's boat, without sacrificing the stability. This one will be a hot one for us...considering how well the NuCanoe Frontiers have done for us.
So that's a wrap! We look forward to sharing what we find to be the latest and greatest in paddlesports. We will have all this gear and much more available in the next month or so, and we will be conducting workshops multiple times a month throughout the fall and winter bringing this great new gear right to you - to learn about, try out and take em' home!
