What to Expect/ What is Provided:
All participants will be required to have a liability waiver filled out in its entirety by a parent or legal guardian, prior to the beginning of camp. Waivers will be available for review upon registration for camp. Outdoor camps are always subject to weather conditions. Canoe Kentucky does have dry contingency plans in place if inclement weather occurs. However, outdoor activities will be provided as long as conditions are not severe. We run rain or shine, and refunds are not available unless severe conditions dictate cancelling the camp.
Canoe Kentucky will provide all necessary supplies for the paddling adventures, including boats, lifejackets, paddles, dry bags, etc. Canoe Kentucky will also provide all transportation to any off site trips, like Elkhorn Creek, and back to drop off/ pick up point. Campers will need to wear appropriate clothing, including close-toed shoes (no flip flops), a hat, quick drying clothing, etc. Campers will also want to bring their own sunscreen, refillable water bottle, snacks, and a bag lunch. Other items to bring can be found by looking under "What Should We Bring" tab on our FAQ page.
EXPECTED CAMPER BEHAVIOR NOTE: We treat the campers as if they were our own children. In fact, two of our three young children are a few of the camp leaders! We are a Christian family and we raise our kids that way. This means we are firm and fair. We do not tolerate fighting, bullying, foul language, backtalk, or any other manners that are not positive. We will discuss all these things with the campers Day #1, and we will utilize missing activities, sitting out, confrontation resolution and good manners to resolve any issues. We also use Leave No Trace ethics during camp. This means we do not tolerate litter, not picking up after themselves or the group, not being part of the team, not being respectful of others and/ or wildlife, being reckless, and other very simple but serious things that negatively impact our environment. You may want to discuss these things with your kids before arriving so that they are aware this is not the same as daycare. We are dealing with nature and are in an environment with inherent risks, so we have to be firm about respect and following directions. If you are not comfortable allowing us to correct and/ or utilize these techniques to keep the group safe, you may want to consider not sending your children to this camp, or we are happy to discuss options with you. We will offer you daily updates to how your children are doing and if there are any behaviors we had issues with. We do all this out of love, as we truly love working with your kids, but know we are firm for very good reasons. Every child will always be treated with the utmost respect and will be safe at all times, and they will be treated as they show us they deserve to be treated.
