The 6-mile

"Fun Float"  I-J   

  This 6-mile trip is on Class I+ water and averages 2 hours if you paddle straight through (water conditions can change the duration of your trip). It is appropriate for beginner to intermediate paddlers. This is the most secluded and intimate section of The Elkhorn Creek, full of wildlife and great for fishing. The creek runs over a rock bottom through a series of riffles, small rapids, and calm pools and is between 35 ft. and 90 ft. wide. The "Fun Float" passes through a senic, wooded valley scattered with rock beaches and is perfect for canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and at certain water levels, rafting, The put in is at Knight's Bridge on KY 1900 and the take out is at Canoe Kentucky in Peaks Mill.

The 12-mile

"All Day Adventure" I-L

   This is a 12-mile trip on Class I+ water and averages 4 hours to paddle straight through.  It is appropriate for beginner to intermediate paddlers. This trip starts with the "Fun Float", making Canoe Kentucky your half-way check-in point, then continues 6 miles downstream as the valley widens out and the creek runs through more small rapids and calm pools. This trip is ideal for those wanting an "All Day Adventure" on the water with great paddling, fishing, wildlife and fantastic scenery. The put in is at Knight's Bridge on KY 1900; Canoe Kentucky is a mandatory half way check-in, and the take-out is just past the US 127 bridge.

"Whitewater Hairraiser"  G-I

   This is a 7-mile trip on Class II-III whitewater and averages 3 hours to straight paddle. It is appropriate for intermediate to experienced paddlers. This trip starts at The Forks of Elkhorn and runs through the palisades with exposed rock walls reaching up to 200 ft. and almost continuous riffles, rapids, and ledges. If the water is right, you can't beat this action-packed trip for honing your whitewater skills. Adjacent to the Jim Beam Distilery, shortly after the put-in, is a well-marked dam that requires portaging on the left. The put-in is at the US 460 bridge in The Forks of Elkhorn and the take-out is at Knight's Bridge on KY 1900. Mandatory Class II experience required. Water level dependent.

The 13-mile

"Best of Both"  G-J

   This 13-mile trip on Class I-III water and averages 5 hours to straight paddle. It is appropriate for intermediate to experienced paddlers. This trip begins with the "Whitewater Hairraiser" and ends with the "Fun Float". Enjoy all the creek has to offer when you take this extended trip. Bring a lunch, it will be a long day! The put-in is at the US 460 bridge and the take-out is at Canoe Kentucky. Mandatory Class II experience required. Water level dependent.

The 19-mile

"Wear it Out"  G-L

   This 19-mile trip on Class I-III water and averages 7 hours to straight paddle . It is appropriate for intermediate to experienced paddlers. Come early and plan to stay late. This is a full day on the water and encompasses all of our trips on The Elkhorn Creek. The put-in is at the US 460 bridge, there is a mandatory check-in at Canoe Kentucky, and the take-out is just past the US 127 bridge. Mandatory Class II experience required. Water level dependent.

 

Paddle times may vary due to water level and experience.

All trips may be canceled due to high water.  If it has rained heavily in the two days before your trip, it is a good idea to call ahead.
